FAQ

General FAQ

How can I be sure the ratings and reviews on this site are genuine?

At Narrator Central, we take the authenticity of our reviews and ratings very seriously. We understand that in today’s online world, it can be difficult to know what’s real and what’s not. That’s why we have implemented a rigorous verification process for every review on our site. We confirm the identity of each reviewer and verify that they have actually worked with the narrator being reviewed.

We believe that this process is essential in ensuring that our reviews are honest and trustworthy. By providing real names and verified reviews, we aim to create a community of trust between authors and narrators on our platform. We want you to feel confident in your decision to hire a narrator or showcase your talents on our site.

We also encourage authors and narrators to provide detailed feedback in their reviews to give other members a complete picture of their experience. We believe that this transparency benefits everyone involved and leads to better working relationships.

In short, at Narrator Central, we are committed to providing real, verified reviews that you can trust. Join us today and see for yourself how our platform can help you achieve your audiobook goals!

What if I fit into more than one category?

That depends on what categories you fit into… If you’re both a narrator and an author, and you want to use the site as such, you can purchase one of our narrator memberships and either sign up for an Author Free membership or, optionally, purchase a higher-level author membership.

If you’re both a coach and a narrator, it’s even easier: Your coaches’ membership includes a Narrator Gold membership at no extra charge. If you need additional information or clarification, please contact us directly.

What is your policy on AI voices?

The use of any voice recording obtained directly or indirectly via Narrator Central, or the participation of any individual or company that creates or knowingly participates in the creation of synthetic/AI voices is STRICTLY AND UNEQUIVOCALLY PROHIBITED. (See our Terms and Conditions for more detail.) Anyone found to be in violation of this policy will be immediately and permanently BANNED from the site without a refund or recourse, and may be subject to legal action.

Narrator FAQ

What’s the fastest way for me to start getting positive reviews?

Invite authors you’ve worked with to register for a free membership so they can review your work. Basic membership is free for authors. You can also invite other narrators you’ve collaborated with and ask them to review you as well!

Can I also set up a profile for my pseudonym(s)?

Absolutely! You will need a separate membership for each identity you would like to list. Our Narrator Gold and Author Gold memberships include a free bonus Gold-level membership for one pseudonym and a discount on additional pseudonym accounts. If you’re an author, you can always apply for an Author Free membership under your pseudonym(s).

Can I review or rate other narrators I’ve worked with?

If they have a profile on the site and you have directly worked together on a project (such as dual/duet or team narration), yes, you can. (If they haven’t yet set up a profile on the site, you can invite them to join.)

Can I rate or review audio editors/proofers/engineers I’ve worked with?

If they have a profile on the site and you have directly worked together on a project, yes, you can. (If they haven’t yet set up a profile on the site, you can invite them to join.)

Can I rate or review the authors I’ve worked with?

You can vote Yes or No on the question of “Would you work with this person in the future?” If you vote No, you will be asked to share your reasons in a private comment. While that information will not be shared publicly, our team will review the comments. If an author receives too many negative comments, their account may be suspended or canceled.

Can I respond to the reviews people leave me?

You can leave a public comment on reviews.

What can I do if I believe a negative review is unfair?

If you have received a negative review from an author you have never actually worked with, please contact us. Otherwise, you can respond to the review by leaving a public comment. Please be very careful to avoid harassing other users publicly or privately in regard to a negative review. (See our Terms and Conditions for details.)

If I am both an author and a narrator, can “author me” review “narrator me”?

Don’t be silly. Absolutely not.

What’s to stop narrators from setting up a bogus author profile and reviewing themselves?

Our team personally verifies every author account to make sure they are who they say they are. If anyone were found to be trying to open a bogus account, it would be a violation of our Terms of Service, and they would immediately lose access to any and all accounts they had created — without the possibility of a refund.

Author FAQ

Should I set up my account using my legal name or the name I publish under?

You should set up your account using the name you publish under (your pen name).

What if I publish under more than one name?

Set up one account for each pen name. Basic accounts are free for authors, and our Author Gold membership includes an additional Author Gold account for one pseudonym and discounts on additional pseudonym accounts.

Will narrators be able to review me?

If they have set up a profile, narrators who have worked with you in the past can vote Yes or No on the question of whether or not they would work with you in the future. If they vote No, they will be asked to share their reasons in a private comment. While that information will not be shared publicly, our team will review the comments. If an author receives too many No votes with negative comments, their account may be suspended or canceled.

I self-publish. Can I still sign up as an author?

If you only publish your own work, you’re an author. If you publish other people’s work, you’re a publisher — please contact us directly.

Can I review audio editors/proofers/engineers I’ve worked with?

If they have a profile on the site and you have directly worked together on a project, yes, you can. (If they haven’t yet set up a profile on the site, you can invite them to join.) If you didn’t work with them directly but they worked with a narrator you’ve worked with, the narrator should be the person who reviews them.
